Government guidelines are advising us to eat a minimum of five portions of fruit and vegetables every day and for some people this seems like an extremely crazy idea. It seems as such because they believe that it is nearly impossible to get the required five during the span of a day. And with the hectic work schedules we all face, it makes good reason to. This article is to show you five easy way in which you can get your five a day.

1. Smoothies

Drinking smoothies is an excellent way to get your 5 a day. With 10 minutes of work you are rewarded with the complete five in one glorious glass. Smoothies not only taste great but are extremely cheap compared to the multitude of multi vitamins and other supplements you would have to buy to get the same benefit. The other beautiful thing about smoothies is that if you add a little bit of yogurt or milk you are also getting your dairy in there.

2. Snack on Vegetables and Fruits

Exchange the cheese puffs you have everyday for carrot sticks and you are well on your way to losing weight. Snacking on vegetables and fruits is wonderful as they will not result in the same crash you would get if you ate, lets say cookies. You can also eat a great amount of these vegetables and fruits and still end up consuming less calories than if you did with 6 cookies. Shake things up with a hummus dip and you have a tasty, but satisfying snack on your hands.

3. Add Fruit To Your Breakfast

This is another easy tip which can lead you to consuming more healthy foods. Eating cereal or yogurt for breakfast? Then why not throw in some strawberries, bananas or even blueberries. Not only will this create an explosion of tastes in your mouth, but you will also be starting the day with an energy boost. Feeling adventurous? Why not put pickles or bananas in your peanut butter sandwich?

4. Use Fruits and Veg As Ingredients

This tip is for people who do not really enjoy fruits or veg, put them in something you do enjoy. Don’t like carrots, but enjoy coleslaw? Well why not make your own home made coleslaw and get at least 3 different vegetables? You can also put your vegetables in your sandwich. Having a Tuna sandwich? Then throw some corn, celery or even chopped green onions.

5. Throw Some Vegetables In Soup

An extremely easy meal to make which is just dying to be bulked up a bit. If you like cream of chicken throw in some mushrooms, and if you like tomato soup throw in some lentils or chopped potatoes. The possibilities with this one are endless. Adding vegetables to soup in addition to making it more tasty will also help you stay full for a longer period of time.

All the tips when used together can result in a lower waistline, a lower food bill and a more energetic you. It is hard to exactly say how valuable getting your five a day can be. People believe that to incorporate this, that they must also change their lifestyle which is simply not the case. Just try to eat at least five a day every day for the next week and you just may be pleasantly surprised.
